Wakal was established in 2014 in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Manuel Morales and Nathan Smith founded the taqueria together. Manuel is from Mexico City and Nathan is from a town just south of Detroit, Michigan in the US.
They met here in Sweden while studying the Swedish language (SFI) and started discussing their passion for street food, in particular Mexican cuisine. And so, Wakal Street Food was born.
Their first restaurant was built from a recycled shipping container, from which everything would be cooked and served from. In 2017, they decided to open up a second location on the island of Hisingen to share their flavors with the upcoming district of Kvillebäcken.
